After leaving the pitch covered in blood following a UCL game, Rudiger writes, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”
Antonio Rudiger, a star player for Real Madrid, provided an update after risking his life against Shakhtar Donetsk to help his team earn a 1-1 draw in a UEFA Champions League (UCL) game at the Polish Army Stadium in Warsaw.
When the German international scored Madrid’s improbable equalizer in Warsaw, he sustained a terrible facial injury.
Oleksandr Zubkov gave Shakhtar the lead early in the second half, but the defender wrapped up Real Madrid’s qualification from the group stages with his spectacular late header after being picked out by Toni Kroos with an inch-perfect cross from deep.
Rudiger who joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in the summer, suffered one of the worst injuries this season after colliding with goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin. His face was covered in blood, and he stumbled to his feet before going back to ground again moments later.
Sharing a photo of him covered in blood after the collision at the UCL match on Instagram, Rudiger reassured fans he was okay.
He wrote;
“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. I am okay – thanks for all your messages.”
He also uploaded an Instagram story saying “We alive” with a picture of his bandaged face and eye.
