In the midst of naira scarcity, some commercial workers have complained that their businesses are no longer thriving because customers are short on cash.

Some of my clients will arrive after negotiations. They will ask for my account number in order to transfer the funds to me.

“The worst part is that you will receive a debit alert but will not be credited.

“They will expect you to start the service right away. When you refuse, some of them will begin to cause trouble.

“In fact, a customer sent a transfer alert to one of my colleagues. “The money is still pending after she served the man,” she explained.

“Cash clients will offer you prices ranging from N1,500 to N3,000. They will tell you that the amount is the only cash they have on them if you refuse. Since I need cash, I will be forced to accept the price”. According to Ifedi Ote (pseudonym), a university dropout and sex worker.

“Even the POS agents where we usually direct our customers to for money have suddenly run out of cash for the past two weeks.

“I believe this policy is sound. We can see that it is intended to reduce crime. “However, the banks are not doing a good job of implementing it,” she said.

Tracy Ehigbere, another commercial sex worker, filed a complaint with the appropriate authorities. She urged them to address the currency swap policy issues as soon as possible.
