According to sources, he died on Sunday at the age of 54; the reason for his death is yet unknown.

Following her father’s death, Temi Bandele, the director’s daughter, made a statement on Facebook.

She stated, ”

“I am heartbroken to convey the unexpected and abrupt loss of my father, Biyi Bandele, on Sunday, August 7th in Lagos,” the statement says.

“Biyi was a brilliantly gifted writer and director, as well as a loyal friend and much-loved parent.” He was a storyteller at heart, with an unshakeable perspective, distinct voice, and wisdom that spoke forcefully through all of his art, poetry, novels, plays, and film. He told stories that had a huge influence on people all around the world. His efforts will continue.

“He was stolen from us far too soon.” He’d already spoken so much so brilliantly, and there was still so much more to say.

We urge that everyone respect the privacy of his family and friends as we grieve his death.”

Biyi Bandele is most known for directing the film adaptation of Chimamanda Adichie’s fantastic novel ‘Half of a Yellow Sun,’ as well as co-directing the popular television series ‘Blood Sisters.’
