As governorship and state house of assembly elections take place across Nigeria, the sight of the god’s representative casting his vote brings some relief to the tension.
A Yoruba deity known as ‘Ara Orun’ (People of Heaven) was spotted voting in full costume at a polling unit in Lagos state.
The masquerade was instructed on how to thumbprint on the ballot paper at a polling booth.
Ara Orun, according to ancient beliefs, came directly from Heaven and were appointed as lesser African gods and goddesses with superpowers.
A photograph of the Yoruba god in human form surfaced online, eliciting varied reactions.
