Divine Ikubor, also known as Rema, a famous Afrobeats singer, has revealed that he decided to forego his admission to the University of Lagos due to the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ 8-month strike (ASUU).

During an interview on Kiss FM radio, he stated that he had moved on and informed his mother of his decision.

According to the ‘Holiday’ crooner his mother advised him to get a bachelor’s degree because it was important.

“What if I told y’all I got an admission into Unilag? Lol Mom said I still need to get a degree sigh, oh well see you guys in class!” he tweeted.

Speaking on why he never resumed classes at the higher institution, Rema said he wanted to do part time schooling and music but the strike ruined his plans.

He added that he finally chose to focus on music and his mother is comfortable with his decision despite her earlier position.
