Joan Laporta, Barcelona’s president, has updated the club’s prospects of keeping winger Ousmane Dembele and midfielder Gavi.

After turning down many offers from the LaLiga giants to prolong his contract at Camp Nou, Dembele is free to go this summer.

Gavi, on the other hand, is out of contract next year, and negotiations for a new contract for the talented 17-year-old Spaniard have come to a halt.

“We are optimistic,” Laporta said when reporters asked about Gavi on Sunday. Obviously, we want Gavi to stay at Barça.

“We’re on the verge of reaching a deal.” It’s even more special for us because he [Gavi] is a member of our youth. We’d like Gavi to stay with us. “It’s something that both the player and his agency want.”

“Ousmane had a renewal offer from us,” he continued, “and we have no word that he has accepted it.”
