Manchester United defeats Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final, ending a six-year trophy drought.
Manchester United defeated Newcastle United 2-0 in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, ending a six-year trophy drought for the Red Devils.
It is their first trophy since winning the Europa League under Jose Mourinho in 2017.
It could be the first of a potential quadruple, with United still in the FA Cup, Europa League, and with a chance to win the Premier League.
Newcastle’s 54-year trophy drought – and 68-year domestic trophy drought – continues.
Despite a strong start by Newcastle, United took the lead in the 33rd minute when Casemiro rose to head home Luke Shaw’s free-kick.
Marcus Rashford doubled United’s lead on 39 minutes, combining with Wout Weghorst before hitting a left-foot shot that deflected off a Newcastle player and into the back of the net.
