Samuel Ortom, the executive governor of Benue State, has encouraged all candidates running for president in next year’s general election to prioritize Nigeria over personal interests.

He made the call on Wednesday, July 21, during a visit to his private residence in Abuja by Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP).

According to a statement, the Governor stated that Nigerians are looking for a leader with “commitment and competence” to stop the years of incompetent leadership that have brought the country to its knees.

Ortom praised Obi for involving citizens and important players in the country’s politics, regardless of political affiliation.

He also stated that the former Anambra state governor was one of the respectable individuals who Nigerians hoped would lead the country out of its leadership crisis.

“Governor Ortom applauded the former Anambra Governor’s decision to engage Nigerians, particularly important participants in the country’s politics, irrespective of political leanings on his aspiration to serve as the country’s next president,” the statement said.

He stated that, despite being a key member of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, the candidate considered him as a Nigerian to consult on his desire.”
