On Wednesday, the Chairman of the Bauchi State Chapter of the Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, replied to words attributed to Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara in which he rejected the notion of a Muslim-Muslim ticket in the upcoming presidential election in 2023.

Remember that Dogara cautioned Christians in Nigeria last week not to squander their votes for the APC in next year’s elections.

Dogara said that the governing All Progressives Congress, APC, adopting the same religious Presidential and Vice-President ticket is contradictory to the country’s desire for nation-building.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Bauchi Chapter chairman of MURIC, Barrister Idrees Safiyanu Gambo, urged Dogara to “Dogara ga Allah,” which means “leave all to God.”

“Although I understand Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara’s need to hide under the guise of ‘nation building’ in driving home the message of his disappointment and being snubbed by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in the choice of his running mate, what I cannot comprehend is the choice of a religious platform to send such a political message.”

“I would like to call on Hon. Dogara to follow the spirit of his name and ‘Dogara ga Allah’ (i.e. leave everything to God), as it is clear that he is doing more harm than good to his hard-earned political image and the reputation he cultivated in the last sixteen years, particularly in Bauchi State, where, despite religious differences, he is highly revered as one of the All Progressives Congress’ most respected leaders” (APC).

“His political party is never a problem for us at MURIC, but the future has a way of rewriting the outcome of the past.”
