The Supreme Court overturned the ban on the use of old N200, N500, and N1000 banknotes as legal tender on Friday.
The Supreme Court ruled unanimously in a seven-member panel that the old banknotes should remain legal tender until December 31, 2023.
It held that the old Naira notes should be used alongside the redesigned currencies.
It chastised President Muhammadu Buhari for implementing the demonization policy without consulting the Council of States, the Federal Executive Council, civil society, and other relevant stakeholders.
The Supreme Court, in the lead judgment delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim, accused President Buhari of disobeying its interim order that halted the full implementation of the new monetary policy.
