A popular Nigerian musician is known as Temilade Openiyi aka Tems has been nominated for an MTV Video Music Award.

She received a nomination for her work on the well-known Future song “Wait For U.”

Drake and Future both contributed to the song “I Never Liked You” from Future’s album, which was nominated for Best Hip Hop Video.

She received this nomination for her lyrics on Beyoncé’s album “Renaissance” and the soundtrack she created for the Marvel movie “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

The former US president Barack Obama’s summer playlist, which was made public on Tuesday, featured her famous song “Vibe.”

Tems became the first female musician from Nigeria and Africa to win the Best International Act award at the BET Awards in June.

With her single “Wait For U,” which made its Billboard Hot 100 debut at number one and handed her her third Billboard Hot 100 entry, Tems became the second Afrobeats act to take the top spot.

The MTV Awards will be presented at Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Center on August 28, 2022.
