Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike said on Wednesday that he would campaign for or against the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer, Bola Tinubu, in the 2023 election.

Xclusivesongs News reports that Tinubu visited Wike on Wednesday at the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt joined by prominent APC chieftains, including his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, Governors Abubakar Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi); Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos); David Umahi (Ebonyi); former Ekiti Governor Kayode Fayemi; Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, Tony Okocha and others.

Tinubu held the meeting immediately after engaging his supporters in Rivers at the presidential campaign held today at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Elekahia, Port Harcourt.

During the meeting, Governor Wike lamented the current crisis in Nigerian states and urged the APC-led government to find an immediate solution to lingering issues.

Relating the current crisis to the forthcoming 2023 election, Wike said: “For the first time I have seen a government procuring opposition to join them to defend their policy. This is an anti-people policy. You are now the ones forcing us (the PDP) to defend something that is completely false. I have seen anything like this in my life. “It’s a pity,” he said.

“Do you people really want this election to take place or not, or you have an agenda to truncate this election? I’m not sure. Look at what’s going on in Oyo, Edo, and Delta right now. Look into what’s going on.

“I saw them even gathering in Port Harcourt and I had to call my Commissioner of Police (CP) and said what is going on? I’m not running a campaign against you. I’m not campaigning for you either. However, the truth must be told.”

Toward the end of the meeting, Wike urged the ruling party to ensure that the upcoming election is held. Remember that Wike is a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Rivers State Governor, on the other hand, is at odds with his party’s national leadership. He and other four governors on the platform of the PDP are protesting Iyorchia Ayu’s position as the national chairman of the party, seeking his removal and replacement with someone from the South region.

This is one of the conditions for the Wike-led Integrity Group, popularly known as the G5, to support former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s candidacy, according to Xclusivesongs News.
